I just think people while are right to point out that Vergil definitely indirectly murders mad fucking people in 5, tend to ignore he splits out of necessity to live, and there is a difference between Urizen and Vergil. I think it could do a better job conveying how stubborn Dante can be, do a better job of building up Nero learning about his family and his place in all this, and all that jazz, but all in all the larger points of the story are fine.
But he is also rightfully upset at his brother not taking the L, hurting Nero, coming back and bring back a big ass demon tree. I think the game does a pretty solid job conveying all that from the little snippets of lines he has in mission 10 and mission 12. He would have fought Urizen either way (to pay the bills, man runs a business after all, albeit he sucks at it), but he has a different demeanor about it than his typical Uncle Dante shtick. I don't think asshole is appropriate as 3 he grows up a bit over the course of that story and has more noble reasons to finish the fight by the end of the game, and I think 1 he is pretty reasonably justified.
